“Ellen Hoffman taught a voice class at Stagebridge last year. It was the first time in my whole life that I sang a solo in front of others. I did it with great trepidation and self consciousness, but with tremendous support from Ellen and the class both before and after my less than inspirational performance. The class ended but I have continued with private lessons at my own request. Ellen has worked with and taught professionals in voice and piano. However, her value to me is her ability to help those of us who carry around a lot of inhibitions and negative attitudes, but nevertheless would like to find our own musical voice. She is very supportive as well as honest in her approach. Come to the lesson prepared and organized and you will find great value in the experience. I agree with the other reviewers. Ellen Hoffman is an excellent instructor.”
“I have had the pleasure of working with her when I was much younger as a member of the Oakland Youth Chorus. I also worked with her during that time at Anna’s Jazz Island. And a couple of years later at a different location but the same and is jazz Island. I am so happy to see that she has continued to be a magnificent part of the music scene oh and by the way, I’ve also performed with her several times at Oakland Youth Chorus concerts including with Michael Morgan and the Oakland Symphony . I’m sure she probably doesn’t remember me unless she saw me but Ellen if you are reading this I am so happy for your success congratulations!”
“I have taken lessons from Ellen in the past. I’m an adult learner. I took lessons as a child and played over the years but have many areas I need to improve. Ellen was wonderfully patient, encouraging and always positive. I developed as a player under her tutelage. I’ve just retired and I have more time. I am looking forward to returning to Ellen as a student. I highly recommend her!”
“I’d been playing piano off and on for a long time, but I hadn’t taken private lessons in many years. After I retired and had more time to practice, I wanted to take lessons again. I specifically wanted to work on my jazz playing. I’d heard Ellen play a number of times over the years and was impressed by how well she plays jazz as well as many other musical styles. When I started lessons with her, I was very pleased by how quickly Ellen assessed my skills and knowledge. She is a gifted teacher and has been able to seamlessly tailor her instructional approach to me and what I want to learn. I am very happy that Ellen does not use a ‘one size fits all’ teaching approach!”
“Ellen is talented, patient and fun! I never would have thought that I’d enjoy piano lessons so much. You will look forward to your next lesson. Thanks Ellen.”
“Ellen is an inspiring musician with an enthusiastic teaching style! My daughter and I both take lessons and her style adapts well to our different needs.”
